A Pontiac happening this past weekend was the Grand Opening of the Gallery on the Boulevard. The opening began on Thursday, May 16th and ran throughout the weekend with different events and activities. It kicked-off with a ribbon cutting and all four days featured the work of Northville artist Mike Mullen. All the events were free to the public and included Gallery tours; meet and greet the artists, live music, introduction of an art competition, instruction, concerts, and refreshments. Mullen’s print, Long Gone, of Tiger Stadium was auctioned off during the celebration.

The Gallery exhibits collections of art, jewelry, and vintage merchandise. Rick and Pat David are the owners and they, along with help from several others, have really established the Gallery on the Boulevard as one of the places in Pontiac that you should go see. They are part of a renaissance in creativity that is awakening throughout the south-east Michigan metro corridor.

Detroit Metro Mashup made it to the Gallery on Saturday just in time to see a five-scene reading of Driving Miss Daisy, performed by Brett Reynolds, Melvyn Hardiman, and Elaine Keinert, who did a splendid job and left everyone chuckling. In addition to enjoying the reading, we took pictures of the beautiful old house that hosts the gallery, the gardens outside, and, of course, the artwork contained in the Gallery. Yours truly was particularly enamored of the Starship Enterprise, a steampunk-style train, a huge dragonfly and more that were made from all sorts of musical instrument components.
