June 7, 2015 - AROC/DCSCC - Detroit Autocross - Auburn Hills, MI
Alfa Romeo Owner’s Club Autocross
The Alfa Romeo Owner’s Club (AROC) held an autocross at Oakland University’s parking lot on June 7, 2015. The lot is old asphalt and good for this kind of race. There was a delay in starting this event due to a computer needing a battery that was left at home, but the rest of the day went very well.
Unfortunately, the Alfa Romeo 4C arrived later and was not part of the race. This is one we were really hoping to see on the track, so that was pretty disappointing. On the fortunate side, there were cars of all makes, models, years of production and some had never done this race before, making the skill levels of the drivers pretty variable. There were two Fiat 500’s, a Corvette, a Neon, a Scion, etc.; you get the picture. Many volunteers in two shifts were placed on the course to determine whether points should be taken off a team’s final score due to moving the track markers and road cones by hitting them in the fury of the race.
The race was a lot of fun and if you like fast-paced racing entertainment, we recommend you check out the AROC Facebook page for the race results and their future plans:
