December 6, 2014 - Holiday Extravaganza Parade
The 2014 Holiday Extravaganza in Pontiac, MI, marked the 33rd celebration of this annual celebratory event. The parade, the highlight of the Extravaganza, was called a “Gift of Love” from the Holiday Extravaganza Committee and Advisory Board.
“The Holiday Extravaganza Committee consists of 100 Strategic team members and the Advisory Board is made up of 15 members…ALL VOLUNTEERS!!! This year you will see the joint effort of four local communities…Auburn Hills, Pontiac, Waterford and White Lake…bringing together over 300 volunteers to make this Holiday Extravaganza Parade happen!”
The parade is usually held in very cold conditions, tempered by the hot cocoa that is provided for free to the attendees, but this year the moderate temperatures made the parade even more enjoyable than usual (at least to this born southerner and his exposed photography fingers). The parade has some amazing floats, marching bands, large character balloons, dignitaries of all sorts, horse drawn carriages, Clydesdales pulling wagons, and lots of organizations representing. We always enjoy running into old friends and recent acquaintances, as well as sharing stories about Pontiac, its current “re-awakening,” and all the things going on in the surrounding communities throughout Oakland County.
If you missed the parade, or would just like to enjoy it again, go check out our photos and video above. We at Detroit Metro Mashup worked on making many of the photos have the feeling that “you were there,” with your childhood imagination and sense of wonder intact; we hope you enjoy them.
