August 30- September 3, 2014 - Peach Festival

This year the annual Peach Festival Floral Parade in Romeo was sponsored by Sheena's Marketplace and Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar. The Romeo Peach Festival started back in 1913 and every Labor Day weekend Romeo hosts many events based around its prized crop, the peach. Events include parades, bed races, craft shows, and much more. It’s fun for the whole family.

Detroit Metro Mashup photographers have been to this parade at least twice during the past few years and it seemed to be even better and teeming with more people this year than two years ago. It was very hot weather but the crowd clearly wasn’t going to let a little heat stop them from enjoying the festivities. Besides the parade and festival, there are also antique shops that stay open and this is always a treat (as well as a way to cool off).

There were many politicians at this years parade; not surprising during an election year, with the big guns being Congressman Gary Peters and Terri Land, who are competing with one another for the US. Senate seat that has been occupied for decades by Senator Carl Levin.

The Shriners always put on one of the best shows around at this parade. The keystone cop act is a riot and clearly a crowd favorite. Youngers Irish Pub, where we hung out for food and beverages, had a special peach food menu for parade goers, although we didn’t notice any peach-flavored beer.

The Romeo Peach Festival begins on the last Thursday in August and runs until Labor Day. Events are set up with the whole family in mind so everyone can join in on the fun. There is much more that could be said, but I am going to let our photos and video do the talking.
