July 26, 2014 - Italian Happening
The Concours d'Elegance of America weekend got off to a great start with the Italian Happening, a celebration of Italian cars, bikes, and the surprises that… "happened.” This was also the Great Lakes Alfa Romeo Owner’s Club (AROC) National Convention weekend, which was held in Detroit/Pontiac, and culminated with the Happening at the Concours; the 2nd Annual gathering of Italian nameplates on the 18th hole of the St. John's golf course in Plymouth, MI.
On hand was a green colored Alfa Romeo 2600 a limousine that was extremely rare. There were many Alfa’s, some of them being one of a kind at this show. The Alfa 4C that was present marks the return of Alfas to dealerships in the United States. Many times we heard the name of Internationally known parts dealer and mechanic Dean Russell, of Trail Auto, being mentioned. If we were to guess, we would be pretty sure that Dean has worked on each and every Alfa there.
Even though two of our staff are very partial to Alfa Romeos, we also enjoyed the other Italian vehicles such as Ferrari, Fiat, Lamborghini, Lancia, Maserati, and Italian bikes. We learned that Golling Fiat in Birmingham, MI, put up it's Alfa Romeo dealership sign just last week. Cauley the Official Ferrari Dealer was also set up with an exceptional display of cars, along with some fine music.
