April 6, 2014 - Goldner Walsh Vendor Meet & Greet for the Garden Gate Market
Goldner Walsh Garden & Home, 559 Orchard Lake Road in Pontiac, is adding new dimensions to its business model to stay current with the times as well as the needs and desires of SE Michigan residents. One new feature will be the addition of a farmer’s and artisan’s market, the Garden Gate Market, from 11AM to 4PM each Sunday from late May through October. They are hoping to get the market up and running by May 18 but, due to the weather, it might be June 1 before it opens. Detroit Metro Mashup will try to get the latest information on our home page as the opening approaches.
In preparation for the Garden Gate Market, Goldner Walsh owner Tim Travis held a “Vendor Meet & Greet” on April 6 and DMM was invited to attend. Leading the meet & greet was Jean Smith, the new, but experienced, market manager for the Sunday farmer’s market. Many vendors and interested parties attended and listened to Jean’s discussion of the upcoming market and Tim’s history of Goldner Walsh, his thoughts about the market, and the several other ideas he is hoping to implement on the historic nursery grounds. He also mentioned that Telly’s in Troy is teaming up with Goldner Walsh, and will be selling their plants and flowers from the Pontiac location. Members of the Pontiac Garden Club, John Carlos from GreeningDetroit.com, Tiffany from the Rust Belt in Ferndale, and yours truly from Detroit Metro Mashup, were introduced and asked to discuss our organizations and how we fit in with the push to revitalize the Detroit Metro area.
Following the presentation everyone was taken on a tour of the historic nursery grounds, where we saw some very happy chickens (including one of Tim’s favorites named Q-Tip, see the photos), artisans at work on the grounds, a variety of greenhouses adapted for weddings and other events, and the beginning of a stone amphitheater that will host music and other types of entertainment. It was a very nice time and we look forward to covering the grand opening of the Garden Gate Market. Check out our photos and see what a cool place this is!
