June 8 & 9, 2013 - Royal Oak Clay, Glass & Metal Show
DMM just attended the 19th annual Royal Oak Clay, Glass and Metal show and it was nice to see some of our favorite vendors, along with several new ones. There was a nice mixture of clay, glass and metal this year with a fair amount of crossover and lots of original thought and creativity in each medium. The weather cooperated and it wasn’t as hot as in years past either.
There were demonstrations of glass blowing and metal work going on, along with some awesome new food vendors this year. The Community Mosaic Project was on hand and the public was encouraged to participate by placing pieces of tile. This mosaic was called Broken Dreams Artfully Reassembled. Marcia Hovland and Laurie Eisenhardt were on hand to do the grouting. This work of art will be on display in the Children’s Section of the Royal Oak Public Library. The first panels were made in 2010, with the hope that such artwork will inspire the children and spark their creativity. The Mosaic Project is an ongoing initiative of the library and the Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber was also one of this year’s sponsors for the Clay, Glass and Metal show.
About 115 artists were present at the show with pieces ranging in price from approximately $20 to $2,000, in what has become known as one of the nation’s top juried art shows. Words don’t do this show justice, so please click on the photo stack above and view our best photographic representations of what many of these artists had to offer.
