DMM attended Lafayette Market & Café’s first “Friday Summer Concerts on the Patio,” lunch BBQ in downtown Pontiac yesterday (05/31/2013). These events will run from May 31st through August 30th, with an evening dinner BBQ from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM, along with a beer and wine service for dinner.

In addition to their usual café menu, the Market had a “picnic” menu that included burgers that were freshly grilled outdoors while you wait, which could also be made to order. We had the bacon & cheddar burger, cooked medium, with a side of potato salad, and both were extremely good.

We were lucky, given the recent weather. The rain subsided for a few hours and we were treated to bright sunshine and perfect temperatures on Lafayette’s large patio, where entertainment was provided by Phil May. Phil is a one-man band, not in the pejorative sense, who performed beautifully on keyboards, guitar, and a steel drum. He sang a number of hit songs and his voice was a perfect fit for his choices, which were, in turn, a perfect fit for the spring day. We had a great time at lunch and highly recommend that you find a Friday, or several, and go to Pontiac to have lunch or dinner at the Lafayette. While you’re in Pontiac, check out the changes to the entire downtown area. Renovations have been made to many of the existing buildings, the businesses have modernized, new businesses are moving in and the whole area has a new smell…the smell of revitalization. Oakland County should be proud of what is going on in its capital city and the people of the county should come downtown to support the improvements.
