October 5&6 , 2012 - Dlectricity
On October 5th and 6th, 2012, Midtown Detroit was lit up by the Dlectricity festival, with at least 35 electric and eclectic displays by local, national and international artists selected from more than 200 entries from around the globe. This was “Detroit’s First “Nuit Blanche” event happening concurrent to the New York and Paris “Nuit Blanche” Festivals.” According to the Dlectricity website (http://www.dlectricity.com/about/), “The name for the event was inspired by Detroit’s very own Electric Park which was located on the site of what is now Gabriel Richard Park. From 1906 until 1928, Detroit Electric Park served as a major attraction, beginning as a trolley park and later expanding into an amusement park with the development of electrification.”
Detroit’s historic buildings were ablaze with transitioning, mutating murals and patterns, a huge parade of bicycles illuminated in numerous ways rolled down Woodward Avenue in a joyous cascade of colors announcing that Detroit IS electric and IS alive for anyone to see if you will only take the time, come to the City, and take a look. Detroit Metro Mashup’s Michele, Shaun and Bob were there to both enjoy and document the event. We tried our best, but you really had to be there. Check out our Dlectricity photo gallery to get at least the flavor of what was a new, and hopefully recurrent, Detroit event.
