Coming up in Metro Detroit!
It’s now been just about a month and a half since we fired up the cascade of electrons that is Detroit Metro Mashup. We’ve now got up around 27 events and places of various sorts, probably thousands of pictures (haven’t tried to count), and the summer is just now getting into gear! We just covered the media preview for the Grand Re-Opening of the Dossin Great Lakes Museum thanks to the graciousness of the Detroit Historical Society (Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/DetroitHistoricalSociety?ref=stream). What a great place the Dossin Museum is on Belle Isle and you should make certain you get down there on Saturday or Sunday to enjoy it. We have details under our Historical Metro menu at detroitmm.com.
Belle Isle is undergoing lots of renovations and the Dossin Great Lakes Museum is a major one. Another highlight is that the Detroit Grand Prix racetrack is being assembled as I write this. We got our directions mixed up a couple of times on our way to the museum and got a few pictures of the track. We didn’t deliberately drive on the track, sure we didn’t!
A Pontiac happening this weekend is the Grand Opening of the Gallery on the Boulevard, beginning on Thursday the 16th (today) and running throughout the weekend. It will kick-off with a ribbon cutting and the four days will feature the work of Northville artist Mike Mullen. All the events are free to the public and include “Gallery tours; meet and greet the artists; live music; introduction of an art competition; instruction; concerts and refreshments. Mullen’s print, Long Gone, of Tiger Stadium will be auctioned off during the celebration.” Detroit Metro Mashup is going to try to get by there for some of the events and you should too. The Gallery is at 53 Franklin Boulevard, Pontiac, MI, and their Facebook page is at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Gallery-on-the-Boulevard/338925219550856?ref=stream .
Another event we’ll be covering this weekend is the Easter Marker Flower Day in Detroit. We never miss this one and it is an opportunity for taking scads of colorful pictures as well as getting everything we need to spruce up our gardens. We’ve covered last year’s Flower Day and you can get a feel for it at http://www.detroitmm.com/events/2012/05-Flower-Day/ .
There are a lot of other things going on this weekend, including Fine Art in the Village in Rochester, MI. We can’t be everywhere, but we’re doing what we can!
