October 17, 2014 - Baconfest Michigan

After a brief hiatus, Baconfest Michigan came back with a bang on Friday, October 17, at the Royal Oak Farmer’s Market. This is a hugely popular event that celebrates every thinkable option for ingesting bacon, from bacon-flavored vodka through bacon deserts. Bacon is served in ways you just can’t imagine without experiencing the event itself. As the organizers say, “Baconfest Michigan 2014 is a charity-based indoor strolling culinary festival celebration of food delights, featuring bacon!” If you normally have bacon only in the morning with eggs, or on pasty white bread with lettuce, tomato, and mayo, you need to get to Baconfest next year to see what you are missing. It always sells out, so get your tickets early.

Baconfest is also an event that supports local charities. This year it raised $6500 for Gilda’s Club of Metro Detroit and $3500 for Justin’s Vision, all while providing the attending gourmands with entertainment, drinks, and massive amounts of bacon! For entertainment there was a bagpiper filling in the breaks for the awesomely impressive Stone Clover, which is a local Irish rock band.

We at Detroit Metro Mashup had the great fortune of once again attending Baconfest to provide coverage. Our thanks go out to Matthew Peach, one of the organizers and the event Master of Ceremonies, who arranged this for us. We were allowed to sample the food, beverages, and beer provided by Griffin Claw Brewing Company of Birmingham, MI (I know beer is a beverage, but such good Michigan microbrew deserves its own call-out). We partook mightily, along with everyone else, and really enjoyed taking our photos and meeting so many good people. It was a super-friendly atmosphere and everyone was having a really great time.

Many groups sponsor this charitable event, so we’ve provided a link, below, to the sponsor page in addition to the home and Facebook pages of Baconfest Michigan.

At Detroit Metro Mashup, we prefer to let our photos do the talking for us, so head up to the gallery above and start perusing!
