July 12, 2013 - Rockin’ on the Riverfront - The Romantics

The Rockin’ on the Riverfront Summer Concert series has returned to the Detroit Riverfront, kicking off the six consecutive and FREE 2013 concerts on July 12 with Detroit’s own “The Romantics,” as the headliners. Rockin’ on the Riverfront 2013 is presented by Chevrolet in partnership with Detroit's #1 Classic Rock station, 94.7 WCSX-FM.

New this year in the VIP seating section is Veteran’s Row, actually two rows of excellent seats in the very front of the VIP section. Veterans are invited to go to
www.wcsx.com, log in, and fill out an application that includes where he or she served, and WCSX will pull weekly winners to sit in the Veterans Row for all six weeks. In addition, Fox 2 in the Morning has a contest going every week to win a VIP prize called Fox 2 Exposed.

Detroit Metro Mashup photogs have been going to Rockin’ on the Riverfront for a few years and we’ve never been disappointed in the shows. They always book great classic rock bands and this concert continued that tradition. The opening act was Amy Gore and Her Valentines, a band yours truly had never seen before. They were a strong opening band, rocking the house with what has somehow become a Detroit rock style that finds its way out of the music and into the crowd from all our quality metro bands.

Emphasizing that Detroit rock style, some of the evolvers of that style, The Romantics tore the place up with a blazing set of hit songs. They never really paused much once they hit the stage, going from hit to hit with the aplomb of a group that was comfortable being on the stage and loved by fans. I didn’t grow up in Detroit, but I get it with the Romantics, I really get it. These guys were some of the original Detroit 70’s rockers and if that wasn’t obvious, nothing was. Classic rock indeed. Towards the end of their set, The Romantics were joined onstage by Steve Kostan of WCSX Radio, who is himself a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer.

We took quite a few pictures of these acts that you can find by clicking on the photo stack icon above. We’d like to thank the Rockin’ on the Riverfront management for giving us this opportunity to take these photos from the VIP section!
